    The Fort Thomas Independent School District is seeking an HVAC Technician for a full time position, beginning immediately. The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems throughout the school district. This position ensures all HVAC systems operate efficiently, safely, and reliably to maintain comfortable learning environments for students, staff, and visitors while supporting district energy management goals.

    Reports To: Director of Operations 
    Contract: 260 Days 
    Salary Schedule: Classified paid Certified 

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair district HVAC systems, including rooftop units, boilers, chillers, furnaces, heat pumps, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, and refrigeration equipment.
    • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC and mechanical equipment to maximize efficiency and equipment lifespan.
    • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, digital, and mechanical control systems.
    • Monitor and maintain building automation systems (BAS) and energy management controls.
    • Replace motors, belts, bearings, filters, compressors, thermostats, relays, valves, and related components.
    • Respond promptly to work orders, emergency maintenance calls, and comfort complaints from schools and district facilities.
    • Perform seasonal startup and shutdown procedures for heating and cooling systems.
    • Ensure indoor air quality standards are maintained, including ventilation and filtration requirements.
    • Inspect and maintain refrigeration systems used in cafeterias, kitchens, and other district facilities.
    • Collaborate with custodial and maintenance staff on mechanical issues affecting building operations.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and inventory of parts and supplies.
    • Recommend equipment replacement, upgrades, and energy-saving improvements.
    • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when specialized repairs are required.
    • Follow all district safety procedures and comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
    • Assist with snow removal, emergency building issues, or other facilities-related duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Technical training or trade school certification in HVAC preferred
    • Minimum of 3�5 years of commercial or institutional HVAC experience preferred
    • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required
    • Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent certification preferred
