Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Valid driver license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of coursework toward journeyman HVAC certification or licensure.
  • EPA sector 608 certification or ability to obtain.
  • Valid Florida CDL class β€œB” driver’s license.
  • Two years of electrical experience related to HVAC equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and best practices related to HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of basic HVAC theory, mechanical systems, tools, and materials.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, and applicable mechanical, energy, and safety codes
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work collaborate and professionally within a diverse work environment and willing to contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Shadow licensed or certified District HVAC Technicians to observe workflow processes and district maintenance operations.
  • Assist HVAC Technicians with routine maintenance, repair, and servicing of HVAC systems across district facilities.
  • Observe and support the installation, inspection, testing, and servicing of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Assist with diagnosing HVAC system issues and performing corrective actions under supervision.
  • Learn and follow proper use of HVAC tools, equipment, gauges, and testing devices.
  • Assist with documenting work performed, materials used, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Participate in training related to HVAC safety, preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, and district work order systems.
  • Maintain satisfactory progress toward journeyman plumbing certification or licensure as required by the apprenticeship program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
